Conjugated linoleic acid (or CLA) is a substance that is contained in many kinds of food. Studies that have been conducted on it show that CLA reduces fat while at the same increases muscle mass. Participants taking CLA as a supplement lost fat even without making any changes in either their diet or physical activities.

Bodybuilders commonly use CLA to lose weight whilst building up muscle mass. Nevertheless, it can be helpful for any individual who’s overweight since having more muscle increases the rate of metabolism which burns even more calories.

Combined with a well-nourished diet, conjugated linoleic acid can bring about weight loss. Experts in weight loss generally agree that the best diet is the so-called non-diet. This means that you just have smaller portions of a normal but well-balanced diet rather than limiting yourself to consuming just a few types of food and totally ignoring others. So you could still have fries and pizza, but just in smaller portions and not all the time.

If that kind of diet appeals to you, then CLA can aid in reinforcing your weight loss by giving a boost to your fat loss. Understand that CLA will not make a fat cell become little. Rather, it keeps the fat cells from getting bigger.

Research relating to CLA was published in The Journal of Nutrition. It showed that those taking CLA lost more body fat in comparison with people that had only taken a placebo. In fact, on average, they had lost 6 lbs more.

Researchers estimated that an individual needs a daily amount of 3.4 grams in order for CLA to be truly effective. As stated above, CLA is naturally found in foods such as dairy products and meat but to reach that daily level, supplementation may be necessary.

A further study showed that CLA even had an effect on insulin levels in diabetics. Furthermore, it brought down their triglyceride and blood glucose levels. This indicates that CLA could also aid in sustaining normal insulin levels.

There are currently no magic pills in existence for weight loss and CLA certainly should not be construed as being one, but if you truly want to reduce your body fat, it may help you. When taken with a healthy diet, conjugated linoleic acid may help you towards your ideal weight.
