Gynecomastia refers to abnormal development of mammary glands in males. This results in breast enlargement and at times it causes milk secretion from those glands. These types of conditions can be found in neonates, adolescence and with the elderly persons.

The main causes of Gynecomastia still remain uncertain but according to medical experts it results due to the imbalance of the sex tissue or hormones in men. To be more specific with the causes of this problem it is important to say that it arises as a result of the disproportion in the levels of estrogen and testosterone in the male body. This imbalance is one of the basic causes of these problems.

This imbalance cause excess deposition of fat in certain parts of the body including the chest area. The deposition of fat in the chest area results in the development of breast in a man. This condition is usually found in men who are obese.

Testosterone level in a man increases during adolescence and it physically transforms a boy into a man. On the other hand an increase in estrogen level creates an entirely different result. It results in man-breasts or gynecomastia. There are many other reasons that result in gynecomastia. Side effects of other medicines can also lead to this condition.

As a matter of fact, studies have shown that almost ten to twenty percent of patients suffer from this condition due to the side effects of their other medicines. Side effects of certain medicines like cimetidine, imatinib mesylate, finasteride, antipsychotics and other drugs can also cause this condition. Antiandrogens and GnRH analogs given to prostrate cancer patients can cause this condition as well.

Similarly, many other health related problems may lead the enlargement of male breasts. For example pituitary and hypothalamus diseases can lower the level of testosterones present in a human body. Whatever be the cause of man boobs, it is a serious problem that requires immediate attention. It is best to consult the doctor and start the treatment as soon as possible because it can be easily cured in the initial stages and will cause less embarrassment to the patient.

Once the cause of the disease has been established, the doctor will determine which treatment would be most effective for the patient. Treatment can vary from one patient to another. The treatment may be in the form of hormone treatments, surgery and dietary changes.

The various kinds of treatments include medicines like Gynexin alpha formula, tomoxifen, clomiphene and ultimate gynemax are some of the common medicines that are prescribed by physician in order to help patients get rid of this ailment. In addition there are other gynecomastia supplements that help in reducing male boobs.

If nothing works a person can opt for surgery. Surgery is usually seen as the last option for curing this condition when nothing else works. There are a variety of surgery techniques like liposuction, mammoplasty or gland excision available that can eliminate this condition. One should always consult a specialist in this field before opting for surgery.
