There is definitely a lot of information on weight loss, however, the very same dieting mistakes have repeatedly been made by dieters. These are not little mistakes but rather huge ones that always lead to failure.

If you want to achieve permanent weight loss, you must recognize and understand them. Finally, you must learn how to overcome these mistakes.

1. Having An All-Or-Nothing Mindset

People who have this all-or-nothing kind of attitude demand that they abide by their diet plan right down to the smallest of details. Sadly, if for whatever reason they are unable to adhere to the diet, they just discontinue it. For these kind of people, it is better to just drop everything all together.

If you have this kind of attitude, you need to understand that mistakes are normal. You just need to be flexible and make any necessary changes so you can go back on track and continue with your weight loss plan.

2. The Wrong Meaning Of Sacrifice

One other mistake commonly made is to look at your diet as a “sacrifice” which is very negative. With this attitude, you feel that you need to make a huge sacrifice in order to achieve your dieting goal.

This attitude is wrong because what happens when you’ve attained your goal? When your so-called sacrifice ends, will you feel entitled to a huge reward for having gone through all that “suffering”? Will you reward yourself with lots of junk food that you couldn’t have during your act of sacrifice?

You need to stop viewing dieting as a huge sacrifice. Rather, look at it as a wonderful life style change that will improve your health in lots of ways.

3. Setting The Wrong Goals

Another big mistake that eager dieters make is setting goals that just cannot be attained. You should set goals that are based on reality. And the reality is, losing 2kg a week is more attainable than losing 20kg in a mere 2 weeks. Therefore, don’t decide on a goal that has a high probably of failing.

If you are one of the many dieters that have unintentionally made a few of those mistakes, do not be too concerned. Simply learn from your mistakes and do not use them as senseless reasons to quit. Carry on with your goal and you’ll attain it. Be committed and persistent and you will conquer your weaknesses and succeed with weight loss.

Next to chamomile, slippery elm is the most popular of all natural remedies for acid reflux. It is such a specific remedy for helping acid reflux and similar conditions that it is really too bad doctors and hospitals do not prescribe it more.

One of the most favorable qualities of slippery elm is how quickly it works, and acid reflux sufferers can feel relief almost immediately. It is also a very safe herb so you do not have to worry as much about overuse.

Vegetable Recipes for Children

By KC Kudra | August 13, 2008

by KC Kudra

Vegetables are a great way to provide the necessary vitamins and minerals to your family. However, how many times have you told your children to eat their vegetables? Probably a lot.

Most children seem to have an aversion to vegetables. They will push them around their plate, refuse to eat them and cry. Whether you are trying out vegetable soup recipes or good vegetable grill recipes, children know when you have sneaked healthy vegetables into their meal, and they will probably kick up a fuss.

Vegetables do not always have to be the enemy. The key is to find a creative way to prepare them and your family will become vegetable lovers rather than vegetable haters!

When you stop and think about it, when you were a child and your mother dropped a droopy, soggy, green hunk of broccoli on your plate, would you eat it? Probably not.

There are ways to get your children to eat vegetables without going crazy doing it. Broccoli is one vegetable that is highest in vitamins and minerals, and there are many different ways to prepare it.

Try it raw. Leave a plate of raw broccoli in bite-size pieces in the refrigerator for your children as a snack. Offer some salad dressing so they can dip it and this is often a hit. Leave the tips of the broccoli on the plate and encourage your child to eat them. You can even make a creative game of this. Grilled vegetable recipes are not the only way to serve healthy vegetables.

Bribery - Do not laugh, it works! Tell your child that if he or she eats their veggies, you will give them a special treat when they are done. It is important that you follow through and give him or her the treat.

Cheese - cheese and broccoli go together excellently. Adding a cheesy sauce changes the flavor and texture of the broccoli and your children might even prefer the cheesy broccoli to whatever else is on their plate. You can use cheese in vegetable soup recipes. This also works with good vegetable grill recipes. Most kids love a cheesy flavor.

Lasagna - add broccoli to lasagna and smother it with sauce and cheese. Your children may not notice that it is there, and if they do, they will find it to be delicious.

Chop it up - if all else fails, pre cook the broccoli and let it cool a little and put it in a food processor. Chop it up until it is not recognizable and add it to whatever dish you are cooking. Your children will not even know it is there.

This might sound strange but it works. Make your kids a milkshake with milk, ice cream, and chocolate syrup. Add some broccoli to the shake and blend it. Your kids will not be able to see or taste the broccoli as long as the ice cream is chunky.

Vegetables are high in essential nutrients, especially for growing kids, so it is great that there are so many ways to get them to eat their veggies!

Conjugated Linoleic Acid And How It Helps You Lose Weight

By Ann Huz | August 13, 2008

by Ann Huz

Conjugated linoleic acid (or CLA) is a substance that is contained in many kinds of food. Studies that have been conducted on it show that CLA reduces fat while at the same increases muscle mass. Participants taking CLA as a supplement lost fat even without making any changes in either their diet or physical activities.

Bodybuilders commonly use CLA to lose weight whilst building up muscle mass. Nevertheless, it can be helpful for any individual who’s overweight since having more muscle increases the rate of metabolism which burns even more calories.

Combined with a well-nourished diet, conjugated linoleic acid can bring about weight loss. Experts in weight loss generally agree that the best diet is the so-called non-diet. This means that you just have smaller portions of a normal but well-balanced diet rather than limiting yourself to consuming just a few types of food and totally ignoring others. So you could still have fries and pizza, but just in smaller portions and not all the time.

If that kind of diet appeals to you, then CLA can aid in reinforcing your weight loss by giving a boost to your fat loss. Understand that CLA will not make a fat cell become little. Rather, it keeps the fat cells from getting bigger.

Research relating to CLA was published in The Journal of Nutrition. It showed that those taking CLA lost more body fat in comparison with people that had only taken a placebo. In fact, on average, they had lost 6 lbs more.

Researchers estimated that an individual needs a daily amount of 3.4 grams in order for CLA to be truly effective. As stated above, CLA is naturally found in foods such as dairy products and meat but to reach that daily level, supplementation may be necessary.

A further study showed that CLA even had an effect on insulin levels in diabetics. Furthermore, it brought down their triglyceride and blood glucose levels. This indicates that CLA could also aid in sustaining normal insulin levels.

There are currently no magic pills in existence for weight loss and CLA certainly should not be construed as being one, but if you truly want to reduce your body fat, it may help you. When taken with a healthy diet, conjugated linoleic acid may help you towards your ideal weight.

Strengthen Your Body And Mind With Pilates

By Judy Smith | August 12, 2008

by Judy Smith

Pilates is not only a work out method it is a way to control your mind, body and spirit. The use of focused breathing and attention paid to the muscle groups builds the ability to focus the mind away from problems. Many people find themselves ill due to stress and lack of exercise. Pilates answers both of these problems.

The Pilates exercise regimen unites your body and mind and also gives you discipline. All these will have positive benefits to your health and well being. Stress brings many chemical changes to your body. It increases blood flow to the larger muscles and slows digestion as it prepares the body for “fight or flight” mode. Your blood vessels restrict and sugar rises. Many hormones are switched into off position. If this were primitive times and there was real danger than this would be a good thing. However much of todays stress has more to do with day to day living such as problems at work or debt piling up.

Many people end up in the hospital from stress related diseases. Stress wreaks havoc on your immune system as it slows healing and most of all prevents wellness. Wellness is not the opposite of illness. It is more than just the lack of sickness; it is an overall well-being that affects both the mental and the physical aspects of life. Many adverse habits develop because of stress and lack of wellness.

Doing Pilates can actually help break the cycle of worry and anxiety. Much like any mental exercise that allows the individual more control of thought patterns, Pilates offers a way to change your focus and relieve the stress.

The exercise from Pilates releases the body from the flight or fight mode by mimicking the activity of both. Exercise is a proven method of stress control, when combined with the activity of mental control and focus on breathing, the quick return of stress is unlikely and the cycle is broken for that period.

Studies link a reduction of disease with exercise. A study at the University of Calgary and the University of Ottowa showed a decrease in blood sugar when type two diabetics exercised. The decrease translated into a reduction of heart attack and diabetic kidney and eye disease. Other studies show a reduction of 40 percent in mortality rate for diabetics. Lack of activity is one of the biggest risk factors in heart disease. Overweight is another. Pilates reduces both risks and is a heart healthy activity. Stress is also linked to tumor growth in cancer victims. While there is no study that shows psychological stress creates cancer, there are many that shows it impairs the immune system and creates an environment conducive to cancer.

It may seem simple. Take a Pilates course, work out three times a week, live longer and be happier. The activity is good for the body, the training is good for the soul and the results on appearance are fantastic for the spirit. Set aside time to exercise and regain hours in healthy stress-free living. You’ll find that the day’s stresses melt away and you feel better than you ever felt before, after just a few months of training.
