Scientist and Doctor Matthis Rath had a study published in 1996 which involved scanning fifty-five patients over a 12 month period to look at the growth in their arterial calcium deposits. This was done using an Ultrafast CT. Then the patients were asked to take a broad spectrum nutritional supplement for the next year with scans taken at six months and twelve months.
After the first 6 months, growth was slowed a little. But after 12 months there was a considerable drop in the growth of atherosclerotic plaques. Before nutritional intervention the average growth was 44% a year. One year after intervention, growth had essentially stopped. In some patients, deposits reversed and disappeared. This demonstrates that heart disease is reversible.
The nutritional supplement Rath designed for this study had 4 objectives. Stabilise the artery wall. Decrease muscle tumours. Neutralise stickiness of fat molecules. Provide antioxidant protection.
Artery Wall Stability
Collagen, elastin and other connective tissues give stability to artery walls. Vitamin C and 2 amino acids are needed in optimal amounts for their production. Exactly how much will vary for each person but 600mg a day can be considered a minimum requirement for vitamin C. Collagen has a particular need for the essential amino acid lysine and the non-essential amino acid proline. About a quarter of this vital structural component consists of these 2 amino acids. A person weighing 70kg has around half a kilogram of lysine stored in their body. Rath recommends at least 100mg a day of each as a supplement.
Lower muscle cell tumours
Artery muscle cells may form faulty connective tissue if they don’t receive enough vitamin C and vitamin E.
Neutralise stickiness
The most dangerous fat transport molecules are not LDL cholesterol but a variant called lipoprotein (a). Sticky protein molecules attach to LDLs and accumulate inside artery walls. One aim of nutritional therapy is to neutralise this stickiness and prevent the attachment. The 2 primary nutrients for achieving this are again lysine and proline. By forming a protective layer around lipoprotein (a), further deposition of fatty molecules in the arteries is prevented. Those already deposited can be released, reversing the disease process. Blood levels of lipoprotein (a) can be decreased with high doses of B3 (nicotinic acid) and vitamin C.
Antioxidant protection
In the bloodstream lipoproteins can be damaged by free radicals. The same also happens to tissues in the walls of the arteries. Good antioxidant support is required to prevent this by eating foods high in antioxidant activity as well as taking antioxidant supplements.
If these four objectives can be realised then there is a good chance of stablizing or even reversing heart disease.

This Is A Letter from Your Belly Fat
By Ricardo Daryans | July 29, 2008
My dear friend…
Its me, your old friend, belly fat. We have spend really great times in the past, doesn’t we? Great parties, tons of amazingly delicious food. Meat, cakes, beers, sodas, sugar, fat, fat, fat…
Why did i write this letter to you? I just did it to thank you for all the great times we had and to tell you that i want to be with you till death do us part. Just allow me to grow i little bit to feel more comfortable (and it’s maybe time for you to buy that XXXL t-shirt).
Ok, it wasn’t always like i was in a bed of roses. I remember that time you went into that interval training. I felt like the Wicked Witch of the West in the land of Oz. Did you hear me yelling, “Help me, I’m melting!”? It was horrible. But it’s ok, i forgive you.
And if you don’t want to feel guilty, you can go back to that slow cardio stuff. All that sweat makes you think you are burning a lot of fat, but i stay just the same. You are ok, and so am i.
It was a great thing when somebody told you that strength training doesn’t burn body fat. You’ve gained some extra fat pounds because of that. Just stay the same, please!
After each one of those superset workouts you tried last January it felt like someone lit a match under our collective butt. I was burning up down here! But boy oh boy, I sure was glad you gave that up and went back to just lifting utensils and not dumbells. Otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to celebrate another summer together this year.
You must feel a really lucky person. When you remember all that times in the past, when i was not inside you, and you felt lonely. But not anymore, i’m here with you, and i have no plans to go anywhere. That’s why i told you that you are a lucky one. What kind of life could you have without me?
So, now that we are friends again, i just wanted to say sorry if i did something wrong in the past. And please, one again i ask you to stay as far as you can from that Turbulence Training workout routine. Ok? Just don’t go into it. Did you hear me? It’s not good for us. If you do that, you will never see me again, and i’m not kidding. Remember that you will be no one without me.
Your best friend, Belly Fat.
PS. Again i tell you, please don’t go near that Turbulence Training program unless you want to see me, it will be a sad farewell, and you’d be stuck with ripped abs, gorgeous glutes, and toned arms, and you know how much attention that people get from the opposite sex. Who needs it, I say.

Whole House Water Filters - Healthy Drinking Water Today
By Tyler Waterman | July 29, 2008
Along with food, water is the most essential thing for the survival of a human, and a supply of fresh and pure water important to maintain a healthy body. As the water that enters the average home has more than 2000 contaminants, water purifiers such as whole house water filters are necessary to remove them.
What Are Whole House Water Filters?
Whole house water filters consist of a carbon filter system fitted to the main water line before it enters your home.
This allows clean, filtered, pure drinking quality water to every water faucet and outlet in your home.
Can A Whole House Water Filter Be Used In Any Home?
If you have running water in your home, then you are able to install whole house water filters. The type that is right for your particular case largely depends on the contaminants commonly found in the water in your area.
To find out what chemicals, minerals and deposits are contained in your water supply, contact your water supplier who should be able to provide you with a printout containing all the necessary information. Although not essential, this is a good idea as your area may for example, have a particularly high iron level or perhaps be high in sediment, and the water purifier supplier will be able to advise on any necessary additional filters or changes.
Those that have water sourced from a well will also benefit from whole house water filters. It would be a good idea to obtain a report of any contaminants regularly found in your water supply, and find a whole house water filter with the suitable filters to eliminate all the listed impurities.
How Does A Whole House Water Filter Work?
A whole house water filter works by forcing the water through several different stages of filtration, each eliminating more and more pollutants of different types including chlorine, sediments and other toxins.
Carbon filters are commonly used in other filtration systems, as activated carbon makes an excellent filter. Point of use water systems commonly fitted under the kitchen sink, along with jug or carafe water purifiers both also use carbon filters.
The Advantages Of Whole House Water Filters
Pure, clean and pollutant free drinking water is of course the main advantage of a whole house water filter, but in addition to this, the chemicals that make untreated water ‘hard’ are removed leaving soft filtered water.
Detergents no longer have to do battle with harsh chemicals, so less shampoo and soap is needed, and the corrosive deposits built up in the pipes of water boilers, dishwashers, and washing machines are eliminated thus prolonging the life of domestic goods.
The advantages of using whole house water filters at home far outweigh the initial higher cost of installation over other less comprehensive systems. Being able to prolong the health of your family, your water pipes and expensive appliances makes the price of these units a very small price to pay indeed.

How are you Handling the Poison in Your Drinking Water?
By Samuel S. Peters | July 29, 2008
Though most would hardly think there are health risks found in their water, according to Ralph Nader, it is only one of 2,100 toxic chemicals found in most city water that can cause cancer. Yet most water systems only test for about 75 of these contaminants. This article will focus on one of them, chlorine.
When I was a kid, I won a fish at the carnival. I was thrilled! The first think I had to do, of course, was to buy a larger tank and fill it with tap water. Yet, so as not to kill my trophy, I had to treat water with some de-chlorinating tablets. Question: if fish will die in chlorinated water, why do we think it’s OK for us to drink it? Yet, shocking as this may seem, the acceptable level of chlorine in some water systems is above the maximum recommended for swimming pools!
Chlorine is an excellent disinfectant. We use chlorine bleach to clean a house or purify a well. Bacteria such as typhoid, cholera, or dysentery are wiped out in its presence. However, chlorine also damages the body. It produces substances called THMs (trihalomethanes). These damage the cells and are cancer causing. Chlorine can also damage the arteries making is easier for cholesterol to attach itself to their walls. At times contamination gets into a city water system and it must be purged with extra chlorine. Research shows that such times evoke an increase in bladder, kidney, and urinary tract cancers. Drinking water taken from the Mississippi River contains 63 cancer causing compounds all of which are made when chlorine reacts with pollutants such as carbon disulphide and methanol, both present in the water.
Drinking chlorinated water is only part of the problem. An even greater risk of chlorine poisoning occurs in the shower! The hot water, combined with steam, causes the body to take in far more chlorine than it would with just drinking water. Steam can contain up to 20 times the concentration of chlorine that tape water has because it evaporates at a lower temperature than water. The result is chloroform gas in the air that may cause bronchitis, asthma, and a greater risk of cancer. Further, the open pores take in chlorine causing skin irritations such as eczema.
This is all shocking news to parents! After all, children’s bodies are much more susceptible to chemical changes as described above. What conscientious parents want to poison their child?
So how can people be sure of giving themselves and their family safe water? A popular option is to purchase bottled water. The problem with this is that, unless you know the source, it could be an unwarranted trust. The fact is, there are no federal regulations concerning bottled water. A company may promise fresh spring water on the label, but pour tap water inside. Yes, to do so is not breaking the law, and it is being done today. So, obviously, pouring money into bottled water is not the answer.
The only safe sure way to guarantee your family is getting chlorine free water is to filter it yourself. Start by purchasing a filter that promises to remove chlorine. Carbon filters do this. The small investment to filter your drinking and cooking water is well worth the peace of mind that will result.

Should I Try A Fad Diet?
By Greg Smithers | July 29, 2008
If you do a fad diet and it helps you lose weight fast and get results, what can be wrong with that? Surely you have seen many ads on the internet and in magazines that say that you can get a huge weight loss in only a few days time.
Is this type of weight loss really possible? Yes - but… in almost every instance the weight loss from a fad diet is temporary and usually due to loss of water weight. Our bodies are made up of a large percentage of water so as soon as your body rehydrates itself you will put that quick weight loss right back on.
Here are some reasons why fad diets may not be right for you.
1. Fad diets typically get you to avoid most foods except a single food type. This can result in missing the nutrition you need which is available from a balanced approach.
Vitamins and supplements are often recommended while on a fad diet. Unfortunately, the diet may be lacking in essential foods which help the body absorb these extra nutrients.
2. Fad diets are often overly restrictive which can result in strong cravings for other foods. This in turn can lead to breaking the diet early and lower your self esteem suggesting that you didn’t have the willpower to stick to it.
3. A fad diet is only a temporary solution. Even if you stick with it until the end, there is really no permanent change to your lifestyle and eating habits. Fad dieters tend to see their weight see-saw, going back and forth. In the end, you end up on a roller coaster of weight gain and weight loss.
No matter what you see in the media about quick weight loss fad diets, realize that these diets will never work long term.
The best way to lose weight and sustain that weight loss (so you never have to diet again) is to eat a variety of healthy foods, avoid overeating, and do regular exercise. This simple formula works every time.
