Renowned for its capacity to reduce stress, enhance flexibility and improve muscle tone and strength, yoga is not so well known for its contributions to weight loss. Most people don’t think of yoga as a way to burn off the calories, so it can be surprising to discover that it can be an effective way to boost your weight loss efforts.
Yoga is not though of as a particularly active form of exercise. While it works out your muscles, it is rare to become terribly sweaty during yoga (unless you are doing Bikram yoga, but then the room will be heated). The muscle toning effects of yoga do let you burn off calories efficiently, however. This means that a regimen of aerobic exercise in tandem with yoga will produce better results than if you were not doing yoga alongside of aerobic exercise.
Yoga also teaches discipline, which will assist you greatly in sticking with your exercise program or new diet. Yoga strengthens the connection between mind and body, which makes you more motivated to take care of your body. Those who want to lose weight often suffer from the difficulty of getting motivated in the first place, so yoga can be very beneficial here.
Different Schools of Yoga
If you plan on using yoga by itself to help you drop some pounds, there are some new variations on the traditional practice of yoga, which provide the advantages of both yoga and aerobic exercise in one package. These types of yoga include:
Vinyasa yoga - Vinyasa yoga is centered on shifting from one asana, or pose, to another while concentrating on your breathing. The Sun Salutation is a typical position, but there are many others. Vinyasa yoga is often practiced in a heated room to encourage sweating.
Ashtanga yoga - Ashtanga is a complex style of yoga that includes six different series of poses. Each series is more complex than the previous one, so it’s important to start at the beginning and work your way up.
Power yoga - This modern adaptation of yoga mixes active, high-speed actions with yogic breathing.
These types of yoga are more likely to increase your heart rate and work up a sweat than traditional yoga. While they may not give you as much of a workout as aerobics, they combine weight loss and cardiovascular benefits with the muscle building and flexibility training of yoga. And for those who do not have the time to participate in two separate workout programs, they can be a great option.
One the surface, aerobics and yoga have few similarities. Nevertheless, conventional yoga can boost the benefits of cardiovascular exercise, and the newer styles of this ancient practice can be a great replacement for your usual aerobics. If you’re dissatisfied with the results you’re seeing from your normal exercise program, why not give yoga a try?

Avoid Neglecting Skin Deep
By Ricardo d Argence | July 13, 2008
Your skin is the biggest organ you have. Yes, I said organ. It is very important that we care for it because it is what we use to protect the rest of your body’s insides. It is important to take care of your skin from the inside out. It is good to take vitamin K to ensure that your skin gets its rightful nutrients. There are several layers that consist of many things to protect your body.
Many different skin conditions exist. There is a remedy for any medical condition. You can choose from many different remedies to find one that satisfies your requirements. The care of your skin can include many natural treaments. Many athletes in ancient Greece brushed their skin with fine sand to protect it from sunlight and bathed in olive oil to keep their skins soft.
To protect yourself from the effects of sun and aging, you can use a variety of fruits and vegetables amongst using other ways. The ancients also believed in homeopathic skin care and often bathed in sour milk.
Avoiding too much exposure to the sun is always a good idea. Your skin can be harmed because of the sun’s UV rays. Your skin will lose it’s vibrancy and life with the use of these. It’s been said that the fountain of youth is found in water. Your skin will also benefit when you drink a lot of water.
The best thing you can do for your skin is to correctly use the products which work best for your complexion. Your skin is constantly exposed to chemicals found in a variety of products. The chemicals found in many of today’s facial products are not ideal for healthy skin so it is a good idea to research the more natural alternatives. You can use all natural cleansers and lotions. Also, try not to use too much hot water on your skin. The important natural oils in your skin get washed away. The oils in your body can contribute greatly to skin that is healthy.
Your skin is always exfoliating and the best thing for it is replenishing it constantly with moisturizers. Going to spas and having regular facials and other therapeutic treatments done are also good for your skin. When you get a massage that is also massaging your skin.
Going natural can be an inexpensive way to healthy skin as long as you follow these tips. The notion that skin is unimportant is wrong, and you must correct this fallacy. Aside from affording you protection, it functions in a variety of ways. Give your skin a little pampering. You owe it to yourself after all the days’ hard work.
Because our skin is the most visible reflection of what’s going on in our bodies, people equate healthy skin with beauty. But healthy skin is about more than just good looks; it’s essential to our survival. So keep your skin glowing with the right skin care techniques and by eating well and getting lots of exercise.

Do You Fall Asleep During the Day?
By Susan Harris | July 12, 2008
If you are always tired, others tell you that you snore, and you are at least a bit overweight, you can suspect you have sleep apnea.
If you meet these criteria, have your doctor prescribe a sleep study for you. Don’t wait! Your life could be shortened by sleep apnea, and it’s all unnecessary — there’s treatment. If you have sleep apnea, you hold your breath and then gasp for air many times a night. It results in increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and other cardiovascular disease including aneurism.
Sleep apnea is caused by the collapse of the airway while breathing in. This condition happens when excess fatty tissue lining the airway causes the airway to lose elasticity. It is a condition generally caused by excess poundage. Snoring usually occurs also.
After the airway closes, the oxygen level in the blood drops. Blood pressure shoots up. The sleeper struggles to breathe and begins to wake up. Returning to consciousness, the sleeper opens the airway, and the breath is completed. The sleeper falls back to sleep. The cycle begins again, perhaps many times per minute. Breath cessation for 10 seconds will bring you a diagnosis of sleep apnea.
The spiking blood pressure is what wears out the cardiovascular system. The semi-conscious effort is what deprives you of sleep.
The fact that you are holding your breath may come as a surprise to you. It’s the constant tiredness that will be obvious.
The sudden rise in blood pressure many times a night is what can kill you, by leading to heart disease or stroke.
There’s treatment?
An effective treatment method has been developed over the past few decades. The continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device consists of a face mask, an air hose, and a fan in side a box. The fan supplies pressure through the hose to your airway. It’s not too much pressure–you can easily breathe out — but when you breathe in, it boosts the airway pressure enough to prevent collapse.
One downside is that the mask can be uncomfortable. But a variety of suppliers offer options now, one of which will probably fit your face.
Another downside is that you have to wear it whenever you lie down to sleep. If you go traveling or camping, you still have to wear it.
Is the fan noise a problem? Users say no; the white noise can actually help them fall asleep.
So, do a quick risk analysis. Is the risk of early death worth the inconvenience of wearing a mask and finding an electric outlet whenever you fall asleep?

Perfect Abs - The Right Abdominal Muscle Exercises To Do
By Allison Thompson | July 12, 2008
When it comes to somebody what to improve the condition of their ab muscles then they need to do more than just carry out a few exercises which have been designed to work on them. A person needs to take a closer look at their genetic structure as well as their age and their gender as all these factors will actually determine the type of abdomen shape a person has. But having said this if you do incorporate the right exercises into your fitness regime you will find that they help towards improving the condition of your ab muscles a lot.
The most effective types of exercises that you can use in order to improve, tone and condition your abdominal muscles will involve you doing some resistance training. As with all the major muscle groups to be found in the human body (arms, legs and back) you will find that your abdomen ones react in a more positive way when you use resistance training exercises.
As well as choosing resistance training exercises you should also choose ones that will after only say 20 repetitions make your muscles feel fatigued. It is these kinds of exercises that actually make sure that you are using your muscles in the correct way and so provide a much better result in the end.
Some of the more effective exercises you should be using in order to improve the condition of your abdominal muscles are the standard and combination crunch or the reverse curl. But as well as these exercises you also need to make adjustments to your diet. What’s the point of doing these exercises if you are going to carry on eating the same foods that caused you initially to put the weight on? Below we take a closer look at the exercises we have mentioned above and how to do them.
With the standard crunch you will first need to get yourself in to a prone position on your back on the floor. It might be wise to put a mat or blanket underneath you especially if you are laying on a wooden floor. Then slowly raise your legs up until your feet are flat on the floor and your knees are bent. As soon as you are in this position comfortably you should start to raise your shoulders up off the floor and make your ribs move towards your hips. But you need to actually prevent your should from raising up above your shoulder level and the easiest way to do this is by pretending that you are holding on to a piece of fruit which has been placed under your chin. When first using this exercise and to avoid putting too much strain on your body you should place your hands on your chest. Then as your muscles begin to grow stronger then you can choose to place your hands either at the side or above your head.
When it comes to the reverse curl this exercise has been specifically designed to work on the fibrous matter to be found in the lower and side ab muscle in your body. Once more you need to lay on the floor (with some sort of protection underneath you) and then bend your knees up towards your chest in to a position that is not uncomfortable. However you must make sure that as you raise your knees towards your chest your hips remain touching the floor. Once you have got yourself into the correct position you need to start raising your hips off the floor. But rather than just pulling your knees closer to your chest you need to contract your abs muscles and this will help to bring your knees towards your chest. Also whilst doing this exercise in order for it to be really effective you must make sure that your legs do not swing to either side.
However if you are looking for an exercise that is more challenging then do the combination crunch which is where you carry out the standard crunch and the reverse curl at the same time.
But at the end of the day when it comes to improving the condition of abs you will find that you need to look closely at your body type in order to find a workout which will suit you perfectly. So therefore it is important that you look at the various different types of workouts others are using and possibly try some before you find the one that is suited to you. Doing this will then help to ensure that you reach your goal of having a great looking set of abs in the future.

The Critical Chemical Needed for Survival
By Samuel S. Peters | July 12, 2008
It is made up of two gases, two atoms of hydrogen, and one of oxygen. When they are combined chemically, they produce the body’s most important nutrient, water!
Water benefits us in many ways. It washes toxins from the body, keeps blood at the right viscosity, maintains body temperature, lubricates and cushions organs, transports nutrients, metabolizes body fat, and does many other things for the body. Water makes up 70%-80% of our body weight.
We each need at least 64 ounces of water per day. If you are active, you need even more. When you don’t get enough, you become dehydrated. Then the body takes the water from any place it can, including the blood.
One result of dehydration is that the body closes some capillaries. This makes the blood thicker, harder to pump, and more likely to clot. This in turn results in high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and possible heart disease. It has also been linked to arthritis, heartburn, and headaches.
Some have guessed that up to 75% of Americans suffer from dehydration. At times the body seems to be asking for food when really it is needing water. A drink can also satisfy the stomach’s cravings and thus help to keep proper body weight.
Our bodies take in water three ways. We get it from the foods we eat, the fluids we drink, and as a by-product of metabolism. It is always better to drink pure water instead of soda, tea, or coffee. These products may actually increase your need for fluids because most contain caffeine, which is a diuretic. Diuretics force out stored water along with certain essential nutrients, a reverse osmosis of the cells.
Dehydration is a dangerous problem. Just a 2% drop in body weight caused by a lack of water affects the mind. A 5% drop can affect physical performance as much as 20% to 30%. A 10% drop will be evidenced in actual sickness and a 20% drop will bring death. With water being so important to our health, most people realize the importance of being sure their drinking water is pure.
Though a number of sicknesses are directly related to a lack of water, the cure is often simply to take in more water. High blood pressure, cholesterol problems, ulcers, kidney problems, stress, and headaches can sometimes be cured by drinking pure water. Drinking 64 ounces of water a day decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, of breast cancer by 79%, and of bladder cancer by 50%!
It is obviously not as option that we take in sufficient quantities of water each day. We must also make sure that water is pure and clean. Surprisingly, tap water and even bottled water may not be. Water you purify yourself through a charcoal filter is best. You can be confident 64 ounces of that will eliminate dehydration related illnesses.
