Eating healthy isn’t an easy switch to make for some people. Most people want to eat healthier foods, but think they will lose the flavor and joy in their favorite dishes.

You can eat healthy foods that are good for you and be happy too. You don’t have to give up every rich food you enjoy, using common sense and moderation is the key. You can switch ingredients and still enjoy your food without having it laden with fat and empty calories.

Bacon now comes in vegan, soy and turkey alternatives. You still get to have your “bacon” so you don’t feel deprived and the alternatives are healthy.

Eggs aren’t as good for a person as was previously believed. You can try to cut back on egg consumption, or you can use an egg substitute or just the egg whites. Either is a good way to cut back on to many eggs.

Try using whole wheat flours and pasta in place of bleached white flour. Using wheat flour in baking is another healthy alternative.

Olive Oil - Olive oil is a healthier option you can use to cook your food than the normal oil and lard we use or that our food is cooked in at a restaurant. Use it as a substitute in your dishes in place of the corn oils. A few less calories add up to increased weight loss!

Chicken is a great food, as a source of dietary protein. Remember to leave the skin, it is the least healthy part of chicken.

Cocoa - Using cocoa instead of real chocolate for some dishes will be a healthier choice to make. It also gives you more control of what amount of sugar you want to place within the dish.

Honey - Sometimes honey can be used in place of sugar in your favorite recipes. It still gives you that sweet taste, but it’s better for your body. Of course you can also use artificial sweeteners if you like, but they don’t help you like honey does and some people don’t like the taste of them.

Eat healthier, but don’t give up all of your favorite dishes before you find out if there are healthier alternative ingredients you can use instead of some of the unhealthier ones that you normally put in your recipes.

The Secrets to Playing the Wine Auction Game

By KC Kudra | August 13, 2008

by KC Kudra

You might not have given it a lot of thought, but wine auctions are now big business, both offline as you probably know but also online and they are becoming more and more popular; whether for private companies, getting rid of end of ranges, wine estates ends of production, charities and of course Joe public wanting a bargain!

Auctioneers forecast a continued but subdued market for wine auctions this year. Wine auctions are the perfect way to find those hard-to-find wine gems, if you know what you are looking for or just to pick up a bargain.

Because of the publicity given to the oldest and most expensive bottles of wine sold at auction, most consumers tend to think wine auctions are for the connoisseurs and the very rich, well let me tell you they are most definitely NOT! Some of the best-publicized wine auctions are for charity, where you can make a gift to the charity and receive a delectable bottle of wine in return.

Wine auctions are live just like you have seen in the movies, and they are great fun to attend. With the exception of some high-profile sales like the Andrew Lloyd Webber sales, most wine auctions are actually quite a quaint and cozy affair with 70% of the winning bids coming from the trade and the other 30% up for grabs at very reasonable prices that anyone can afford.

While there are a number of well-heeled patrons bidding in the thousands for a single bottle of a specialty offering, wine auctions are mainly made up of donations made to local charities in exchange for a bottle of wine. With online auctions, research can be done prior to bidding. After an auction has concluded, a would-be bidder can use the prices of that auction to get a good idea of the going rate for various bottles of wine. This way, you will be very prepared when the next auction starts. Online wine sales allow prospective visitors the time to do great background searches of the databases to ascertain what to bid.

The excitement of a wine auction could affect impulse buying, and a punter paying a higher price than normal even. So research is key to getting a bargain, do not get carried away! Auctions also bring to the market fine old wines that might ordinarily go bad in a cellar, simply because there is no convenient way to dispose of them.

Wine auctions have become the preferred place to sell these wines, when you can often get a bargain. Auctions are typically set up around lunches for obvious reasons and most of the heavy bidding occurs during the middle of the day. What a way to enjoy your purchase!

Weight Loss-Eat Less, Exercise More

By Patrick Glancy | August 13, 2008

by Sara Mendez

For all the reasons people gain weight, there are just as many reasons to lose weight. According to the CDC, in 2006 only four states had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%. Obesity is at an all time high in America and beyond and the reasons for this epidemic are endless. There are many reasons people gain weight, it could be snacking, portion issues, or food addiction.

Everyone could benefit from knowing what a proper portion is. Every time you eat at a restaurant, you are greeted by large unrealistic portions. Take a “dinner salad” for example, it can contain two portions instead of the implied single portion. By eating more portions than you should can obviously cause you to gain weight.

Snacking between meals can be another problem. Some people deal with their emotions by snacking. Think about times you may have been snacking, were you nervous, were you bored or maybe you were stressed. These emotional connections often cause you to turn to food and snack when you are not hungry. Once you learn to control these feelings and can identify the triggers associated with them, you will find weight loss easy to attain.

People who are food addicts are usually completely out of control and unable to know if they are truly hungry or simply having a craving. Food addiction is an issue that is finally making its way into the forefront of weight gain. Often times, food addicts have become so because of a habit. Once you address this habit, you are able to regain control and focus this energy on something else such as weight loss and exercise. Unfortunately people who suffer from this have a hard time identifying this as the source of their weight gain. Unless you identify the problem you can not find a solution.

It is difficult to figure out why you over eat, make bad food choices or snack without help. Hypnosis has proven to be a highly effective tool in the battle against weight loss. Hypnosis is not a short term fix, many have experienced long term success because hypnosis deals with the actual triggers and attachments to food that could hold you back with other short term plans. It confronts food addiction head on by giving an answer to the “why am I eating so much” question that many food addicts deal with day in and day out. This treatment deals with all the behaviors you are unable to deal with through regular diet and exercise.

Hypnosis helps you to crave other things such as exercise, healthy food and other activities. You will notice your energy returning, you will feel more happy and relaxed that you are doing something about your problem instead of doing nothing at all. You will no longer feel the need to eat unhealthy things and sit at home on the couch. It is a wonderful feeling indeed.

Finding a plan that works for you and your lifestyle will help you reach your goal of weight loss. Instead of doing nothing about it, it is time for you to do something. Think what your life could be like while you are losing weight, think of all the energy you will have. Don’t be one more in the obesity epidemic, be one more on the road to a better, more healthy you.

Will Over Want: Get Control of Your Takeouts

By Joel Riley | August 13, 2008

by Joel Riley

With the power of suggestive sales and advertisements geared towards a supersized lifestyle, it’s no wonder that residents of the US are fatter than ever. It’s way too easy to see a commercial for the newest ice cream treat, hop in the car and drive ourselves to the corner and get one for yourself.

Unfortunately, those ads can sabotage us when we’re trying to stick to our diets. One effective advertisement and you can cost yourself too many calories or fat for the day, but more important is the mental damage it does when you decide to give up your whole diet just because you had one bad day

It takes a lot of conviction and a strong will to be able to turn the channel or drive past the fast food restaurant. You can do it minute by minute, day by day, it’s the smaller changes and the steps made away from the snack bar that count.

What you see isn’t really what you get - Keep this in mind. How often have we seen the image of the perfectly thick hamburger and ordered it - only to find that what you get is a smashed up mess? The temptation is in the perfection. Think not of the image, but what it will really look like when you get it. Most of the temptation will be gone.

Don’t be afraid to order your food the way you prefer it. After all you have gone to the trouble to load up in the car, drive to the restaurant and you should be able to get the food you want, you are the customer afterall.

If you use the drive-through, chances are you won’t be as tempted as you are if you go inside. There are sights, sounds and smells that act as a mental stimulation and encourage us to sit and gorge on food. If we drive through and come home and eat, chances are we probably aren’t going to even eat everything we bought.

Who can resist the smell of French fries? The mere mention is enough to kick start someone’s salivary glands and make the mouth water. How can you NOT order fries with that shake and burger? By using the drive through, that’s how.

Deliveries - If a restaurant delivers, use it to your advantage. You can plan what you want and order it without having to go to the establishment to see all of the tempting pictures on the wall. If they don’t deliver, ask someone else to go get your food for you.

Sometimes a little extra money spent on convenience can be a good thing. It can keep you far away from the temptation that may make you falter. It’s hard to say no to all the goodies at our disposal, however if we avoid certain situations we may be able to prevent falling off the diet wagon.
